With a vision to create a mindfully meaningful impact on the handwoven weaves and heritage art segment of India, Sukanya Bhataacharya founded Prathaa in 2016.

Graduating in English literature and studying Communications and Marketing in her Post Graduation, Sukanya worked as Regional Marketing Manager at HDFC Bank, Consultant – Senior Research Director at IMRB International, and National Head Marketing at Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Sukanya’s love for travel, exploration, and her immense respect for Indian art and weaves are a few factors that motivated her to lay the foundation of Prathaa. The Founder also serves as a Brand Marketing Consultant for her organization. Prathaa celebrates the exquisite, handcrafted fabrics emerging from the heart of India, breathing, flowing, and speaking of the country’s textile heritage. As a brand, they believe in nurturing and preserving the Art and Weaves of India, by creating distinguished, easy to wear and contemporary fusion fashion apparel.

Prathaa believes that every woman is unique, and therefore the brand keeps an eye for detailing, finishing, and quality, ensuring perfection in their outfit. Rather than just being a trend follower, this brand emphasizes the quality, celebrates the uniqueness of the fabrics used and the stories behind them .

The brand firmly believes that fashion is an integrated voice of a generation that sometimes speaks the language of style or colour. Apart from everything, what everyone looks for in an attire is comfort, and at Prathaa, designs are incorporated in an outfit without compromising comfort. Since India, like other countries, is focusing on sustainable fashion, Prathaa also focuses on doing the same, along with creating wealth for the artists at the grassroots like the weavers, karigars, and artisans making a positive difference in their lives.

Prathaa as a brand has a purpose of treading lightly and leaving a small carbon footprint.

INIFD and London School of Trends helps student designers showcase their creations at the runway

It was a proud moment for India as students of Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) in collaboration with London School of Trends (LST) presented a sustainable, fashion-forward, and thought-provoking collection called “INDIAN FASHION TRUNK” at the 7th season of the recently concluded New York Fashion Week held at Ziegfeld Ballroom, New York, USA.

Anil Khosla, CEO, INIFD, said, “The labour of love and hard-work of the students spoke a universal language propelling the dialogue around sustainable fashion. We are elated to be able to support talented and foresighted creative minds and enable them to represent the country at a global platform such as the renowned New York Fashion Week. With the objective of providing world class mentorship and guidance to nurture the talent pool to become the fashion moguls of the future, we are continuously investing in the journey of the students pursuing fashion with grit and passion”

India has always represented harmony in diversity and the same could be very well seen in the collection. Sustainability is the need of the hour and staying considerate towards the environment is very important. Students have consciously sourced, manufactured and designed clothes using ethical fabrics, repurposed materials, ensuring zero wastage.

The designs were based on the ‘Craftsmanship of the Future’. To capture the spirit of India with students coming from diverse backgrounds, they were focused on fall-winter trends for the 2022 season. It depicted the rich culture, indigenous craftsmanship, art, design, originality, textiles from different states of India. The vibrant colors with rich deep hues and fabrics are one-of-a-kind which highlighted the craftsmanship that makes India a powerhouse source for fashion.

Sunny Somra, Director, London School of Trends, said, “We are humbled to see how our agency with INIFD has transpired into a talent showcase of the country’s finest fashion designers making an uproar at a coveted event – New York Fashion Week. Our objective with this association is to pave the way for the bright future of fashion students and consolidate their foundation as they witness the extraordinary possibilities at every point of their career in fashion.

Amidst powerhouse designers and plethora of versatile creation of fashion legends, 52 pieces curated by the INIFD were displayed on the runway. This opportune event saw a clique of celebrities adorning the fashion week with their presence.

Ritu Kochhar, Director, INIFD, said that “Under the professional guidance of industry experts, our students are mastering fashion design, in addition to being equipped with discovering their individualistic styles, techniques and craftsmanship to create a masterpiece with a creative vision. We are also continuously looking for ways to enhance our facilities and syllabus to create a sustainable ecosystem offsetting footprint in the field of fashion from the get go.”

There are a lot of trends that were seen in 2021 which were only blooming among smaller groups, however these trends are likely to spill over in 2022 and take over the market. Marketing Manager of Stargate Club, Mitali Joshi shares few trends that will rock this year.

Corset Tops

We saw a lot of cropped rib tops in 2021. This 2021 is transitioning the 2020 crop rib top trend into corset tops. They can be casually worn with wide legged denims or even fitted pants. The corset top trend is a big inspiration from the off duty model look which has been on a watch out since a while now.

Minis

The mini length in dresses, skirts and shorts will be back in 2022. We all did see a snippet of mini skirts in 2021, specially in the street style. The mini length will be popular in all the bottom wear categories this year. We can already see a catalogue of minis on many fashion platforms like Stargate Club & Urbanic.

Cut outs

The 2010 teenage trend of cut outs is back in 2022 for all of us. It is a glamour trend this time and hence we will see cutouts in the occasion/ party wear category. A lot of icons like Kendall Jenner and Dua Lipa were seen flaunting this trend and it is all set to hit the commercial market in 2022.

Bralettes

Bralettes was the most watched out trend in 2021 but didn’t make it to many wardrobes. 2022 will see this trend widely available on a lot of trend focused ecommerce sites and other popular retailers. People observed this trend last year and are now all ready to flaunt it themselves.

Volume Sleeves

Volume sleeves have been an evolving trend. Initially volume sleeves were seen only as a part of occasion wear outfits, however people are now all ready to take over this trend for casual dressing. Volume sleeves can be worn as a statement piece with casual denims, shorts or skirts which make this trend wearable for everyday wear.

A lot of micro trends which have been peeping in since the last two years will be making a grand entry this year and will be here to stay. The year 2022 is going to be a year where people want to try out new styles since they have missed so much in the last 2 years.
