It is inspired by the personal health challenges faced by the author when she fell down and broke her cheekbone and had a nasty gash over her eye. This was all result of exhaustion and lack of sleep. As the cofounder and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group — one of the fastest growing media companies in the world — celebrated as one of the world’s most influential women. After all this, she wondered is this what success feels like.

Delhi, April 26, 2022: As India celebrates its rich history of people, culture and achievements on the occasion of 75 years of independence, Netflix and The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, have come together to honor unique real-life stories of extraordinary individuals through a series of inspiring short videos titled Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan. This was launched today in the presence of Shri Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India.

Bela Bajaria, Global Head of TV, Netflix, who was also present at the event, said, “Great stories can come from anywhere and are ever so inspiring when they are about people who rise against the odds. In partnership with The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan focuses on celebrating remarkable individuals and their stories that can inspire people in India and around the world.”

Narrated by acclaimed actress Neena Gupta, these short videos capture the remarkable journey of these individuals and how they broke the glass ceiling in their respective fields, ranging from science to sports. Here is what these achievers had to say about what Azadi (freedom) means to them personally.

“If something hasn’t been attempted, it doesn’t mean you cannot do it. To me, Azadi means facing a raging fire.” — Harshini Kanheker, India’s first female firefighter.

“From water comes life, and water is life. I flow free like a river, and will continue to protect and serve water, that’s Azadi to me.” — Basanti Devi, Environmentalist and protector of the Kosi river ecosystem.

“If women hold the power to create life, women also hold the power to save lives. If I have to put my life at stake to save other lives, I wouldn’t think twice.”  — Poonam Nautiyal walked miles across the Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand to vaccinate thousands of people living in remote areas.

“Being a scientist, every moment is a learning curve. We need to face challenges, and we need to learn. I always say that science has no gender, and Azadi is when we take our nation to new horizons.” — Tessy Thomas, the “Missile Woman of India”, is the first-ever woman scientist to head a missile project in India.

“I am a force of nature, I can scale great heights, and my journey has just begun. Azadi means to make your way up in the world.” — Anshu Jamsenpa, the first woman in the world to summit Mount Everest twice in 5 days.

“When you dream something out of the box, it’s very important to push the norms. Azadi is to be one with the wind.” — Aarohi Pandit, the world’s youngest person and first woman pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean solo in a light-sport aircraft.

“You have the right to dream, and the right to achieve your dream. Just like the waves, be patient, be consistent, and never look back. To me, Azadi is to take a bit of the ocean wherever I go.”— Tanvi Jagadish, India’s first competitive woman stand-up paddleboarder.

The videos are now available on the Ministry’s social media platforms and Doordarshan.

‘Rest The Case’ is one stop solution for all Legal Services. This young and dynamic entrepreneur will take you through her journey on how she thought of conceptualizing a platform as unique as this.

  1. Please share your journey, how it started as an Entrepreneur?
I come from a business family, and I remember spending my holidays from school going to office with my parents. We would spend time together in the office and when they were in meetings I would sit and listen to all that was unfolding before me. It used to feel really amazing to see how meetings were held, what they would talk about and how somehow everyone would come to conclusion that they seemed happy with. This kind of thing always peeked my interest and I knew that this is what I wanted to do. The main thing however that I admire about entrepreneurs is how they take an idea and make it into so much more. I would like to think I am on my way every day to do just that, make my idea more than just an idea. When I was studying law in the UK, I saw how easily available legal services were online and how easy it could actually be to find a lawyer. That’s when the idea of Rest The Case came about. I wanted to create a place where anybody can Rest their case (put it to an end) and find the help they require.
  2. What are the biggest hurdles that you faced in your journey?
Starting anything new takes time and a lot of getting used to. There were a lot of things I still had to learn then and still have to learn now, that I think has been the biggest hurdle.
Starting young definitely has its perks but it did sometimes affect me negatively. A lot of people I talked to didn’t think I knew what I was doing, in fact I was asked once if this was just a hobby or I wanted to do this long term. This had been my idea and my goal; it was never a hobby but because I was younger when I started people thought that.
Finding the right team was a difficult as well. I was so driven by this idea it was all I thought about and all I think about even today, and to find people who will give it just as much importance as you is difficult, but I think now I have been able to find the right people, slowly but steadily.
  3. Failures are the best teachers so how can one overcome that?
This may sound like a cliché, but I do really believe the best thing that failure does is teaches you to rise after every fall. Overcoming failure is not easy, but when you do, you realize you come out as a different person, and so I think that we must do different things, try to do what scares us and then even if we fail we will have learnt something about ourselves or about the work at hand that we didn’t know before.
For me what works best is to discuss my failures with someone else because they see it in a light that I don’t, I talk it out with my family you could talk to anyone who you wish to share with. It also helps me see it more clearly that way because I have explained it out loud. Don’t be scared of failures, they definitely are the best teachers, they help you understand yourself in a way you didn’t even know.
  4. What Inspired you to start ‘Rest The Case’ at such a young age?
The idea of Rest The Case came to me when I was studying, and I wanted to start it as soon as I could because I thought it will solve a problem. The problem I saw was that in our country people find it extremely hard to find a good lawyer to help them with their basic legal requirements. We have resources available in our country, but we don’t really know where to find it, so I wanted to create a one stop solution for all legal services and information. When the lockdown happened and the entire world seemed to be changing the need for legal help increased even more and that when I decided I didn’t want to wait any longer, I wanted to start now.
  5. Share 3 advice for young entrepreneurs.
    a. Be brave- I know this sounds redundant but I think this needs to be told to everyone who wishes to start their own business. Don’t think about what will happen, don’t ponder on the same things you have been thinking about all this time, the time is now, get up and get started.
    b. Plan- I think it’s very important that you know what you want to do and also very important to be sure of what problem you are trying to solve. Put it down on paper, it helps to clear your thoughts.
    c. Believe in yourself and your ambition- this is the most important part of doing anything, if you don’t believe in yourself and your idea, nobody will.

Namrata HempCo. has been an active and prominent member of the Hemp Industry in India since 2016. The enterprise dives deep into research, manufacturing, and product development, with a mission to acquire excellence and emerge as an industry leader in all three sectors. Following extensive and relentless research, Namrata HempCo. launched its first consumer brands; Satliva & Satliva Foods, in 2017, and 2021 respectively.

Satliva,’ their personal care subsidiary, adheres to a zero inventory process. The pure Hemp Seed Oil used in their personal care range is extracted freshly every single day, using an ingenious cold-press machine developed by the team in-house to exclusively extract high-grade Hemp Seed Oil. Following the extraction; the products are made, packed, and dispatched the very same day. The company prides itself on consistently developing products that are 100% natural, contain no additives, artificial fragrances, alcohol, or aqua. Satliva chooses to follow a ‘minimal ingredient and maximum effect’ concept; hence, their creams and oils have a short-lived shelf life of 6 months, and their soaps have a shelf life of 4 months.

Innovation is embedded deep into the soul of Namrata HempCo. leading them to their next innovative creation with their subsidiary; Satliva Foods. Observing the need to include and  normalise hemp based nutrition in the Indian diet; together, they launched India’s first ‘Instant Hemp Dosa Batter.’ The batter is made freshly from scratch every day, without the addition of any preservatives. The team chooses to grind the batter using an authentic grindstone, in order to hold on to their traditional values, and also the nutritional values from the vegan, gluten-free dosa batter. In the following weeks; Satliva Foods is expected to launch 3 new products: Hemp Seed Oil, Hemp Protein Powder, and an energy boosting Hemp Berry Trail Mix.

Their innovative streak does not end here; previously, Hemp Fibres would have to be hand processed using a time-consuming and tedious method, whereas now, they are easily processed due to India’s first decorticator, used to process long length hemp fibres, developed by Namrata HempCo. and installed in the state of Uttarakhand. Their ingenuity further led them towards the creation of their patented technology, which enables them to convert raw hemp fibres into usable textile fibres, using bio-waste that is entirely free from harmful chemicals and toxins. They continually strive to reduce their carbon footprint, and become a 100% eco-friendly company

The enterprise also works intimately with farmers, and the farmer producing organisations (FPO’s), and is effectively working with Uttarakhand farmer groups to launch a hemp agriculture program in the state during the approaching monsoon season. Additionally, it is introducing smart farming technologies to ensure standardization and traceability of high quality hemp raw materials. They provide a 100% buy-back guarantee to the farmers they work with, in order to ensure consistent work opportunities and betterment in the lives of farmers.

The enterprise has engaged in mutually beneficial partnerships with various state horticultural and agricultural universities, to conduct comprehensive research with regards to cannabis landraces, in order to develop viable strains for seed, fibre, and medicinal crops. Namrata HempCo. is biodiversity board complaint, which allows them to conduct research and development without compromising on the safety of the environment.

At its core, Namrata HempCo. is a company striving to make the world a better place with its high standards for sustainability in terms of the environment, quality in terms of its products, and ingenuity in terms of its progress towards a better tomorrow.

The Leather Story is a tale of passion & entrepreneurship that brings forward a range of premium leather accessories that can be used in one’s day to day life enabling functionality as well as style. It offers a range of premium products such as wallets, luggage tags, cell phone cases, notebook covers, accessory organizers and more.

Aditi Kapur Chawla, an entrepreneur, a mother, a wife and a woman – started The Leather Story right before the world came to a halt in lieu of Covid-19. Even with the challenges faced as a new brand, the world crisis did not stop Aditi from pursing her passion for shaping a brand that speaks all things accessories. One thing that keeps her going is the constant urge to learn and evolve in the lifestyle space. As an independent business owner, her advice to other young entrepreneurs is to constantly keep ideating to think outside the box.

One example from her own personal experience, is of The Leather Story itself. The brand was launched in February 2020 keeping gifting category in mind, and in lieu of the unprecedented times the brand shifted gears to diversify and add value to it’s customers and the market needs. Given the times when travel was at hault, Aditi came up with an interesting category called ‘Work from home’ that further evolved to add Tech Accessories, keeping the changing shift of real to reel life.

Given the circumstances, a homegrown premium brand would usually shy away from experimenting product categories, yet Aditi choose to take the plunge based on her learning about the market gap in leather accessories for the modern Indian who would love to organize by investing in products that add value for purchase.

“We as women, usually forget that we foster a very strong community amongst ourselves & can be great strengths to each other. It’s about breaking that barrier to enroll in communities that offer to learn a lot from fellow entrepreneurs.”
Aditi Kapur Chawla, Founder, The Leather Story

Apart from learning and growing, and being a brand amidst the pandemic, Aditi comes with a fair share of her own challenges and lessons even after being fortunate enough to not face major discrimination as a woman. Considering her years of past experience in the industry, she believes every start-up faces speed breakers. To name a few, it could vary from registering a company, having an office address, shaping agreements that validate your business, and more. These barriers, tend to become irritant when the process prolongs over a period of time. Having said that, Aditi believes women can multi-task, and if that can be played as your strength – this quality can help any start-up that requires management for its early days.

Being a part of the startup journey, Aditi found herself being the sole person behind everything the brand required, from QC to packaging to even coordinating with the logistic partner. Rather than letting these factors demotivate her, she took it as an opportunity to plan ways of working and designed an SOP that could be followed by her team.

Some insightful takeback from Aditi that young entrepreneurs can stand by are as follows:

  • Before you launch, indulge in objective research and learn about your audience by reaching out to them to understanding exactly what they want or what they are missing. Ensure your idea fulfills that need.
  • Add value to product or service that fulfills or solve a problem.
  • Be open to any feedback and constructive criticism, as you’ll always need a Devils’s advocate to keep you ideating.
  • Lastly, Don’t give up on your belief and accept failures as it’s true, that you can’t keep everyone happy, you’re not selling ice-cream! Even if you are, there will always be someone who dislikes a flavor. So, get going, ideate, evolve, innovate and keep up the spark, as no one will ever believe in your idea as much as you do. All you need is to catch on a wave that takes you on a ride and solves a problem or adds value to a need. Rest, we all sail though the rough waters to reach the island called success.

The advent of Covid-19 saw several drastic changes in the world. Be it the shift to a virtual economy, norms of social distancing, adjustment to the work-from-home conventions, redefining the gender roles, it was quite a shift to the new normal in the past two years of a global pandemic.

A 19-year-old Economics student from Jaipur, Rajasthan, Rashi Vashisth, saw the pandemic as a perfect opportunity to make the digital space more affordable and accessible to businesses, and at the same time add value to their brands.

After working for several brands as a digital marketer, her quest for perfection led her to the idea of starting the Shag Infotech. As believed, with an efficient team, she can add more value to the brand’s identity than just creating social media and managing their accounts.

In a generation where the entire world has shrunk into the 6-inch screens of mobile phones, a good digital presence is a must to increase the brand awareness of the business.

Rashi’s efforts to make the digital space more accessible to the businesses and build a digital marketing agency that personalizes the entire experience for the businesses is a huge step in the direction. In a few months, Rashi and the team of Shag Infotech have established an astounding client base. The team has supported the clients in each step from executing the brand campaigns to establishing a firm brand name in the market, as Shag Infotech perceives itself as the extension of the internal team of the client.

“The needs of the small businesses, who are unable to afford the services of the top-notch agencies and lag when it comes to making a mark in the digital space. The step of making the services affordable and accessible will enable the start-ups and small businesses which came up in the pandemic to take advantage of the platform provided by the digital media to spread awareness and build their brand,” said Rashi Vashisth, Founder, Shag Infotech Private Limited.

Women became the driving force and have been leading several start-ups in the country. The start-up boom in the country has reinforced the agenda of women’s empowerment in the country. Rashi Vashisth is a living testimonial of the fresh perspective and innovative ideas that women can bring to the workplace. The success of Shag Infotech and the contribution of Rashi in building the brand is an inspiration to the young girls who are aiming to get into the world of business.

On this women’s day, we celebrate the success of innovative women like Rashi Vashisth and others who are changing the outlook of entrepreneurial organizations and businesses by being leaders of the changing future.

Life is full of challenges, and everyone has his fair share of challenges. The key is how one deals with them. Having grown up in a royal family in Jabalpur, life was as good as one can expect it to be. I completed my BS LLB from ILS Law College in Pune to become a lawyer. I always had the business streak in me, and I was involved in managing a business in Jabalpur. Eventually, I got married to Kaushal Soparkar, the promoter of Meghmani Group of Companies, and shifted to Ahmedabad, where I presently run a factory of hygiene products.

I was always interested in spirituality, but I can say my spiritual journey began in earnest when I started reading the Bhagavad Gita during my first pregnancy. I also studied the Vedas, Upanishads, and Swami Vivekananda’s works in quest of spiritual knowledge.

I can say that I had a blessed life, and I had not experienced any major problems. But the birth of my daughter Shruti, who was a special child, changed my life forever. She had a shunt in the brain and underwent four brain surgeries by the time she was just four months old. I had to take Shruti to various doctors in therapy centers. I realized that having a special kid is a huge trauma for any parent, but the situation is especially challenging when one is not financially strong. Special children have special needs and they require certain things to just survive, but these things are very expensive, and way beyond the reach of most people. The poor have to struggle through every single day of therapy. Moreover, the therapy does not lead to immediate results, and it takes years for special kids to acquire even basic skills.

While I was much better off, some instances got me thinking. Once I came across a couple during therapy who used to have only buttermilk for lunch every alternate day because they didn’t have money. I was shaken, and I told myself that I need to do something to help such people. Initially, I started supporting needy people I came across during visits to therapy centres with Shruti. I had helped 10 people, but I realized that there are many more people out there who need help. This is how the idea of establishing an NGO to support such people came, which took shape in the form of Madhuram Charitable Trust. I did not know how to begin, but the law degree came in handy. Our intention was noble and we received support from everyone.

In just over two years, the Trust has achieved much more than I had imagined. We have supported more than 1,000 special kids in one way or the other. Later, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, we launched Project Stepathon with an aim to distribute prosthetic legs to physically challenged persons. We have distributed high-tech prosthetic legs imported from Germany to 85 beneficiaries so far, and we aim to cross 100 very soon.

Going ahead, I plan to ensure the beneficiaries of prosthetic legs are literally standing on their own by providing them with employment opportunities and helping them become financially independent. I am in talks with companies that can absorb some of the beneficiaries.  Another target going ahead is to open an aqua therapy centre for special kids. These kids are looked down on in general facilities due to a lack of awareness about their condition. I am already talking to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, which is very supportive of such a center. I am confident there will be good news to share shortly.

Foxtale founder, Romita Mazumdar thinks self-care is important and should be done with good skin care products which also should be affordable. Hence she created one! Foxtale products were created to provide simple yet efficacious solutions to several skin concerns faced specifically by Indian women. Let’s learn from her how she jumped into this entrepreneur journey.

  1. What made you step into the beauty space and start Foxtale?

I quit my much-loved VC job to start my own entrepreneurial journey. COVID-19 was an unusual time for all. There were two emotions that kept the world going – empathy and compassion. I have understood the meaning of these two words through the years from women in my life. Self-care should be a right and I will do my part by offering products that are affordable, accessible, and the absolute best. Empathy will be the driving force of each of my endeavors through a community of empowered women who will help perpetuate this message further.

  1. Tell us more about Foxtale products. (Products and benefits)

The Daily Duet Cleanser is a dual-acting face wash that can be used twice – first to remove makeup and sunscreen and then to cleanse thoroughly. Ceramide Super Cream is loaded with ceramides and Sodium Hyaluronate cross polymer that form a strong and resilient barrier over the skin. C For Yourself Serum contains 15% L-Ascorbic Acid. This formula is exceptionally stable, extremely efficacious and reduces the appearance of spots, fine lines, and photodamage drastically with continued use. Cover up SPF 50+ is a strong and hydrating shield that protects from the sun as well as screen damage. Includes the benefits of actives like niacinamide, vitamin b5, and vitamin E for brighter skin and diminishes signs of aging and photodamage.

  1. What makes Foxtale products unique and fit from the rest?

Foxtale products were created to provide simple yet efficacious solutions to several skin concerns faced specifically by Indian women and largely also women of color. While we have been influenced by Western standards of beauty for centuries, it is hard to find products that fit us and help us in a realistic way. To create these products we had to find the perfect balance of ingredients to suit the 200+ skin types within our country. Foxtale is held up by three pillars: simplicity, efficacy, and affordability. Our products are formulated to deliver just that.

  1. What unique branding strategy are you planning to build Foxtale as a strong community first skincare brand? (Lab trial)

As a community first brand, Foxtale includes experts from the beauty and skincare community in our product development, content and in creating awareness. Our investment in educating aspiring beauty enthusiasts and the improvement we have brought to their content and reach has helped us create a loyalist base.

  1. Acne and aging due to stress are one of the growing problems among women. How can regular skincare effectively prevent that?

A solid skincare routine can not only combat this but sometimes change your mood as well. Daily use products such as sunscreen and cleansers contribute more to reducing signs of aging and breakouts than one would think. Routines don’t have to be complicated but it is important to have basics in place.

It is not easy to pen down your thoughts and deliver the message to an open audience to engage, like, and share. Doing this with a kid is a next-level thing. Pandemic not only shook the world for professionals but it also impacted women big time especially the younger women who now have to handle more and more things. But hats off to those women who managed it well and pursued their passion. Today we are going to talk about a similar person who is not only mom, but a blogger, influencer, and a working professional too. Introducing Mrs. Karishma Nayar to share her journey

Please introduce yourself to our readers?

Karishma Nayar, 30, a working professional, a mom blogger, and before all of that, Mama to Gurbani.

What inspired you to choose this industry?

When I became a mom, people had a lot to tell me about motherhood, and they told me how motherhood is the end of your career and all other things to do with you, how the only thing I could now focus on was my baby. Then I decided to bring back my passion into work and took to Instagram to prove it to the world that it’s not the end. Motherhood is the beginning of a new you, and there isn’t a thing that moms cannot do. Whether it’s work, house, kids, or family, women can manage everything. We are the new-age mommies. We know our kitchen and economy equally.

Do you think that it is tough to pursue your dreams and passion after being a mom?

Pursuing your dreams is, either way, tough, but with a good schedule, diligence, planning, and focus, we can still be great moms to our kids while honoring our dreams and ourselves.

Tell us how you handle a baby and work from home?

I have an excellent emotional support system in my husband. Many times I feel like giving up because Gurbani (my daughter) is acting up in academics and or maybe my numbers aren’t moving up on Instagram, making me feel discouraged, and he makes sure he motivates me back into my best pumped up self and other times helps me a lot with the legal side of this career. Finding a mentor or people who will encourage you and help you keep going is a great help. Look for these people in your life because you will need them when the challenges of motherhood and life converge and nothing seems to be going your way.

How do you handle failures?

Unlike every coin, success also has one more side, failure.

Moms always have mood swings. Sometimes you feel like an independent adult who can do it all on her own back to feel almost childlike and dependent on others. I remember creating this one piece of content at 12 in the night three times straight because it got rejected for some reason or the other while having guests in my house and my staff on leave. It’s easy to feel put-upon and angry. Juggling so many roles can be frustrating but seldom. The love for what I do keeps me consistent and happy to be doing this every day. Let me tell you that it is the fastest-growing industry. One needs to be consistent; if you have the zeal or passion for being an influencer, don’t wait for the right time to post, be ready and adaptive to the industry rules.

Your take on Influencer Industry in the next five years?

If you look closely, the industry is not new. We all need an influencer in our life, and this journey starts from our childhood. The platform can be different, but influencers will always be there to keep you entertained and influence you to follow your passion. Isn’t it amazing! A mom, whom everyone has told to forget herself and keep her family ahead of her, managing everything together with so much passion and perfection.
